V.E. Camp 2007 Review
After months of planning and discussion, all the committee members wants to do is to have a bonding camp with the Juniors, to know more about them, as well as to create a good relationship with each other, to make sure that everyone likes to be in this Voice Ensemble family. Anyway, I shall try not to crap too much but just add some of my thoughts about the events took place during the camp.
Day 0Committee members are to report first on that day, which was a Monday. We know that we will be having a long night as we will be having practice later. I reached to NYP around 3 plus, after heading to Canberra Secondary to print some stuff. Well, once I was there, I guess I wasnt doing much at all. Everyone was busy while I was slacking down there. Soon, we started to try out one of the games. I dont know how did I get such a funny tune but the 'music' that is put in the game was really a nice one. we just play the game and we were laughing throughout.
Practice starts at 7pm and we had sectionals while learning our new piece. Once practice was over, the committee went to pack the necessary stuff for the next day's camp. Some were helping out to put their bags into the bunk. Actually, there are 2 bunks on that day; mainly the guys and the gals. However that night, everyone slept at the same bunk. The guys were sleeping at the gals bunk as we gonna watch the movie, "the 200 Pound Beauty". It was a nice movie but my position of watching the show is quite irritating. I need to find a comfortable spot to watch the show but failed to do so. Once, the show's over, it was already 3 plus in the morning. It was then lights out for us as everyone took their rest.
Day 1Goodness Gracious Me!!! I was the last one to wake up. The 'Gatsby' song, which my alarm ringtone, keep playing and playing. I was really exhausted since I was having lack of sleep. Anyway, we need to move on as its a brand new day for us. We set up everything and we wait for the arrival of our Juniors. It turned out to be a disappointment as less than 10 juniors were there. However, the camp must go on. That's what we told ourselves and Kah Hong, who was the person in-charge of the camp, started with a 'warm' welcome. He was trying his best to ensure that the spirit in this camp would not fall at all.
After the welcome speech, we had our flag-making and cheer-making. It was quite alright for me but the main problem we faced was what should our group name be. I was with Yi Tian, Pauline, Matthais, Winnie and my buddy, Yong Hong. We came out with several names and we called our team, 'Wang Wang'. Just imagine about the last camp I had, my group was known as 'Solo'. Now, its called 'Wang Wang'... What a great transformation but yet the names are quite cool after all. Once the flag was designed, we begin to have our ice breakers. The games are quite interesting and yet strategic, especially the game 'Under the Curtain', which needs the wits and brains of your members to whack the correct person over the curtain.
It was time for lunch and problem occurs. The ones that told the leaders that they would be late are all not coming for camp. I have ordered 36 packets of food and such things happened. We had more than 10 packets that are left aside. Thinking that its quite wasteful, we gave the packets to the other students who are having their camps. Sectionals was next and the guys were in the guys bunk learning the song. When the Tenor part was over, I was sleeping at my sleeping bag. Knock-OUT!!! I guess I was too tired at that time.
Then, there was the station games, which we need to complete each within 15 minutes. The best game was to use a chopstick and throw it into the bottle. Sounds easy but why dont you guys give it a try. It is quite hard to do it but it could turn out to be fun too. As we played games for the past few hours, it was time for Night Walk. Paul, Kah Hong and I were the ones to be hiding while our teammates are to find us. I was asked to hide at the stadium but it turned out to be a tiring one. As the satidium lights went off, I was the only one in the dark, sitting at the seats of the spectator area, watching the instructor running his rounds. Instead of counting lambs or sheeps, I was counting how many rounds he had run. Soon, I fell asleep and by the time my teammates found me, it was 11 plus. In total, I had waited for 2 hours plus. Gosh!!! I need sleep that night!!!
Day 2Rise and shine but I was the dead pig in the guys bunk that was the last one to wake up. I wasnt feeling that good as I kept waking up at intervals. First, I went to the loo at 4 plus. Then, I woke up at 6 plus to wake Jasmine up. Soon, it was 8am, where everyone is to gather for morning exercise. I was responsible for that and we went to the hockey pitch for warm up. Once I'm done, we went for breakfast before starting our games again. Although the games are quite easy and light, the tough one is still up ahead.
Afternoon was the time for lunch and we walked to Ang Mo kio Central for our meal. It was after our meal when the REAL game begins; "The Amazing Race - V.E. Edition" Alright, it does sounds like its from a copyrighted title from the television but we wanted to do something whacky. I mean it, it was really whacky. We started at Ang Mo Kio Park and after having ourselves stuck at there for an hour plus, we finally left the park and head to the next station. Overall, we went to 5 places, the AMK Park, BLK 322, AMK Hub, BLK 648 and Cheng Seng Park. They are all located in Ang Mo Kio but the distance do counts. My legs were tired when the whole event was completed. It was like walking from Canberra Secondary to Sembawang Park, and back again for the next 3 hours or so.
The performance, also known as the showcase of each team was held during the night. Everyone's performance was great and I enjoyed it. However, I just hate myself even more because I couldnt sing on that day. I was not feeling very well, especially after I have a flu and cough that morning. My voice was hoarse and I was like being a Bass rather than a Tenor. Anyway, the Seniors performance was rated by me as a 'OMG' performance. After the performance, a snack auction was done. I realised it isnt mean that the small packets are not tasty items after all. One of them was 'Merci Chocolates'!!! Alright, I wasnt allow to eat even if my team gets it. I was classified as the 'Sick' one so no junk food for me.
That night was quite a long night too. I had to help Kah Hong to do a video presentation on the pictures we took for the past few days. It was a tiring job as I ended up sleeping at 5.30am. Actuallly Kah Hong was doing the task with me but once he closed his eyes, he went to Dreamland straight away without asking me to join him. Well, thanks to Joyce's help, the pictures were ready.
Day 3Last day of camp and AGAIN!!! I couldnt wake up. It took about 4 people to wake me up?? Or even more?? I dont know. Let me guess, Cai Yun, kah Hong, Shuai Xun, Paul... Maybe the rest of the guys also help to wake me up. I was really dead tired and I wanted to sleep for another hour. My alarm was ringing for the past 1/2 hour. Well, once I wash myself up, it was time to set up the stuff to show the video to the Juniors. While we are busy doing the set up, the Juniors were playing another game. Gosh!! I just wish I was with them.
They watched the video and then, we had our de-briefing. Everything was quite alright but I guess, everyone was tired. This camp is a tiring one as I have never gone to such a vigorious camp with so many tasks and games to play. You could be playing at one moment but overall, you could drop dead at anytime as you are losing your strength. Anyway, once the camp was over, the Committee members have to de-brief again among ourselves for the conclusion of the camp. By the time we finished, it was 3pm sharp. We went for dinner at AMK Hub and I went back home at 5 plus. Tired.... I just went to sleep once I had my shower and after I dried my hair.
Most of all, the camp has been a good time for me to understand the Juniors. Thanks for those who have come and those who have helped out. Moreover, thanks to those for your concerns about my illness. Although it was quite irritating but thanks for your understanding. I will still make sure that I would recover. Anyway, the next camp, lets hope the attendance would be better. Committee members!!! Thanks for the joy and laughter. Our hardwork is still paid off very well. Let's work hard for the coming concert and the next camp!! We shall move on, to another chapter of V.E.!!!
