CSSB - Cert. of Distinction =]
It’s been 2 years since the Canberra Band has compete for the Band Assessment for SYF. Each year has a different category of competition that Singapore will have for all schools. The first competition would be the SYF for Symphonic Bands whereas the other, its for Military Bands. The difference of the two bands is easily compared. One need to do marching and work out formations to make things work while the other, all you have to do is play good music while sitting. Now that makes things easier for most bands.
Anyway, Canberra Secondary took part the SYF today and what they have got in the end? It’s a certificate of Distinction! I’m indeed happy for the school and the teachers for what had achieved but most of all, the band members have got all the credit thanks to their hard work during training and determination to strive for the very best. It is not easy but seriously, they did earn their title for a distinction.
Well, for my task today, I was their supporter, just like many other seniors of the various bands in Singapore. However, I did something for the members by buying Macdonalds for them, which turn out to be a torturous act. Since I’m getting burgers for more than 50 students, I needed to withdraw some cash. Hence I went to find the POSB ATM machine it only seemed to be located at a far location near Macdonalds. Rui Xiang joined me and we walked all the way to Macdonalds, which was 3 bus stops away from the National Stadium. Cool isn’t it? -.-“
Never mind about the long distance factor, when we reached Macdonalds, there isn’t any ATM machine and we received directions from the staff that its further down the road, located near a block of flats. Nice try… In the end, we were hearing to old airport road. This makes me to show my jaws opened, with all the ‘X’s and ‘Y’s coming from my mouth, cursing like a crazy human being.
Got my $200 cash and went to bought about 60 to 65 burgers and a few cups of drinks. Terrible. The person who received that order was like looking stunned for a moment before calling the manager for help. I can’t blame him as it is such a huge quota that the machine could not do anything. Haha.. Anyway, we ended up boarding a taxi back to the stadium as the buses were full.
I managed to watch Deyi Secondary playing. It’s Winnie’s; Nu Er; band and they played wonderful. Although I was in the middle of some confusion, as I was sleeping soon, I still manage to get myself up and watch the show before dozing again. Haha… anyway, I guess Tanjong Katong’s props were cool but too bad, they did not managed to win the Band of the Year award.
Although Deyi won the Band of the Year and Best Drum Major awards, the best was that they score Gold with Honors, which shows that how much effort they had put on to earn such a credit. Well, band competitions are over. Here comes the start of my holidays as well. Haha… Gosh! I need to sleep now… Tired…
